"I will start my diet and exercise activities
...tomorrow" then tomorrow then the following day, tomorrow again because
the food is so tempting!
Changing lifestyle starts with a good intention. But a good
intention without the corresponding action is nothing.
Action is the result of a productive and active brain
signals. It's like when our hand touches a hot surface, we remove it
immediately. However we define this action as a reaction or a passive movement
versus an active movement.
Changing lifestyle should be a product of active conscious
movement that comes from our brain. It is combined with right intentions and
the knowledge of its good effects to our body; and the logic that if we change
now, the change will manifest in our body.
So here are some tips to start changing your lifestyle.
1. Understand your Brain Functions
Our brain is a complex system with a very small part of it
dedicated to logical thinking. We need to feed our mind with good information
and reasons why we should change. The hippocampus is the brain's million memory
byte storage system. It will never run out of space. So read and feed your mind
with the information you need... to change!
2.Food for the brain
"we are what we eat" ...not peanuts!
It's amazing how food
affects our brain functions, our analytical thinking, our mood as well as our
body built. We have been eating empty food that makes us happy but keep us
dumb. A lot of us weren't used to eating complex healthy carbs from vegetables
and some fruits which our brain need. We love sweet, filling, creamy, cheesy,
fatty foods which can do more harm than good.
So, the next time you are tempted to eat ice cream, eat
avocados instead. I don't recommend you to skip a meal this time, just
substitute your meal with more vegetables ..less rice and meat.
3. Sleep
A good sleep makes us alert. Lack of sleep swells our brain
which may lead to a lot of complications. If you cannot sleep 8 hours at night,
take a quick nap in between during the day time. Use your break time as nap
time.
4. Exercise
You are too busy, too occupied, no time to go to the
gym...oppsss! No need.. a consistent 5 minute exercise a day to start with your
exercise lifestyle is all that you need. Choose a 5 minute dance song and play
it while bending, twisting, stretching a day for 23 days will change the way
you look at exercise. You may also ask your family members to join you. A
family that exercises together lives longer together. Caution though, 30
minutes of exercise is the limit. Free radicals set in after that which is bad
for your internal organs.
